Cold Dark MatterCold Dark Matter

"This is mystery writing at its very best; an intelligent plot, always surprising characters and a deeply textured setting." Betty Webb, Mystery Scene Magazine

Morgan’s search for a dead astronomer’s missing diaries takes her from a mountain peak in Hawaii into Ottawa’s dark Cold War past. Intrigued? You can listen to my interview on the CBC flagship science program Quirks and Quarks. Just scroll down the page until you see the book cover.

If you'd like to read the first chapters of Cold Dark Matter you can find them on my Mysteries page, or you can read current reviews here.

If you're interested in where Morgan came from and the true history behind the book, an author Q&A is posted in News. And for those of you in Ottawa, the Fruit Machine is now on display at the new Canadian War Museum.

Science Feature: Spot the Liar

Ever wondered what liars really do? Do they shuffle their feet? Shift their gaze? These are the kinds of things that I, as a mystery writer, need to know, so I put on my science-writer hat and wrote a science feature on the topic. Those Lyin' Eyes: The Art and Science of Lying Well first appeared in the Ottawa Citizen. It includes interviews with some of the world's authorities on the science of deception and deception detection. It's now posted under Science. Check out the 'spot the liar' quiz at the end.

Dead Water CreekWhat critics say about Dead Water Creek.

Dead Water Creek is the first Morgan O'Brien Mystery. In Dead Water Creek Morgan nabs a case to investigate a leading salmon researcher accused of embezzling project funds. She figures it's a piece of cake, an all-expenses-paid vacation to Canada's West Coast, but once in Vancouver things go terribly wrong.

"An excellent debut novel in what, I hope, will become a series... Take this one to the beach." (Margaret Cannon, Toronto Globe and Mail)
